I have this machine, the Brother LS-2125 and when I got it on Amazon, it said it had 25 stitches. But when I look at it, it only shows 10 stitches and I can't figure out any more from the book. Looking at this description
http://www.allbrands.com/products/abp08187-1125.html

it says 10 stitches/25 stitch functions. What does that mean? I'm sure it doesn't matter since I only use about 5 of those stitches anyway, but I'd still like to know what they mean by 25 "stitch functions".

tikidoll,
I remember when I purchased my first machine. I was stumped by this as well. Stitch functions refer to what you can do with a stitch. For example the zigzag can be used to 1-finish a raw edge, or if you make the stitch length shorter you've got a satin stitch that can be used for 2-applique 3-monogramming. The straight stitch 1- seaming, very long = 2 basting. These are all stitch functions. Some machine companies will now state that a particular machine has x number of actual stitches. I think the whole stitch function thing can be misleading for newer sewists. A machine is advertised as having 100+ stitch functions yet you can only count 60 stitches .

Yeah, those silly machine companies will count each type of button hole...(my old macine makes like 10)...and if you happen to have a built in alphabet on the sewing machine...each alpahabet counts as 26..52 if they have caps and lower case. Technically I guess they are right but we as consumers don't think that way.

Thanks for the tips! Now I'll re-read my manual and hope I can figure out how to make the straight stitch baste on the machine since I sure hate doing it by hand! It's lucky I can't do much or this "stitch function" scam would really have me screwed!
