Where do you buy your thread cones? Does anyone have a website that has good deals on cones? I am new to serging and would like to build a supply of colors.

I just buy mine at Hancock's. Sometimes they are on sale. Serger thread usually last a long time. I keep more white and black than the other colors.

I noticed today at Hancock their Wolly serger thread is 50% off. Tomorrow may be the last day. It is supposed to be for knits but I have used it to serge the edges of wovens too. It is stretchy and seems to "suck up" to the seam and make tension mistakes less obvious. I'm pretty new to serging!

I Also just recieved a Hancock flyer starting Sunday and I think they had some cones on sale.

I also keep a lot of white and black serger thread, which I bought at JoAnn's. I got a set of about 30 different colors of cotton serger thread off of eBay. As Shirley said, serger thread last a long time. So, I probably won't have to purchase any thread for a while. I have also had success using serger thread on my sewing machine.

We don't have a Hancock's where I live, but we do have a JoAnn's. I find they are cheaper for serger thread than most people on the internet sales.
I know many people don't like Walmart serger thread. I have purachased it and never had a problem with it. You might want to try it with just one spool and see if it works for you. It is really inexpensive.

Hi, I have found that serger thread as well as embroidery thread is about half as much, if you buy in bulk, on line thru Ebay stores. Threadart is a good one. If you buy from a seller that is not in your state you do not pay sales tax. Just compare your local store's price against the ebay price plus shipping to determine the best place to buy.

Recently I bought a big box of serger thread from http://ctsusa.com/ which I'm quite satisfied with. Their serger cones are $2 for 6000 yds! To compare, Joann's is having a 3-day sale next weekend $.99 for 3000 yds, and I don't like Maxilock as well as CTS. I bought their T-21 weight which seems to be the same weight and strength as my other serger cones. I have also bought elastic from them. Their heavier weight cones are supposed to be strong enough for load-bearing seams, but I don't sew enough to need that much thread.

On a whim I bought the CTS thread color card too. It cracks me up. Either they don't sell a lot of these, or they found one that fell behind a filing cabinet. The grommets are rusted, they have pasted on three additional rows of thread, and they had to cut out part of their logo on each page. I think it's great.

If you like Maxi Lock you can order from Atlanta Thread Company, it seems to almost always be 1.99.

I just ordered a Janome 644D. I have lots of serger thread that I used on my White, which worked fine. My daughter gave me some of it because it wouldn't work in her Bernina. I don't know if it was cheap stuff or not but it is not all maxi-lock. Are there any other brands that are as good? I have a lot of SureLock and American Crafts.
