Has any one had problems with their magic box? This is the second box to go back to oesd . First one the store just gave me a new one. That was in Aug. Yesterday the second one died too. They did not have a new one to give me so now I am stuck with lots of designs sitting in the computer and no way to us they. I am about ready to ask for my money back but I don't think I can use any other box with the bernina 330.

I have heard of several people having their Magic or Amazing box (same box, different names) die on them. They haven't had any trouble at all getting them replaced, but still it can be a PIA having that happen!

I'm not sure, but Ultimate Box version 2 might work with the 330. It works with the Artista 200, and I do believe they use the same cards. Don't take my word for it though, I'm not at all sure...

I have both the Magic Box (now retired) and the Magic Box Plus. With both boxes, I often have to unplug the connection at the back of the box, wait a few minutes, plug the cable back in, and then proceed to write to the Magic Card. I would get messages like "cannot find Com Port I" or the hour glass would just spin and spin, but there was no red light on the box itself. It has been frustrating to pay $200+ for a piece of equipment that seems to have some technical failures. But, as long as I know all I have to do is unplug the back, I just keep on doing it. It usually works every time when I take that one little step.

I used to have to do that, but since I've plugged it directly into my computer usb slot (and not a hub), I've had much better luck. Also worked better after service pack 1 was installed.

I got that com port thingy once or twice too and it wasn't even a serial version, it was USB! So that's what worked for me. I haven't had ONE problem in months now since I did that.

Oh also my hub was an older, slower hub and I think that was contributing to the problem too.

Thanks for all the help, now I just have to wait for the box to come back. I will try the back usb port and all the things you have told me. It is madding to pay all that money and the thing does not work right or when you want to sew, sewing should be fun not nuts. I am giving they 2 weeks and then I start calling again. I want to use this $$ machine. Not look at it.
Thank agin I will let you know what happens. :( :(

I have had trouble with my Amazing Box. I called the manufacturer and was given a new drive to install. It has worked great since. So you might try that before buying a new one.
Just my opinion. Hope it helps.

I've had so many problems with the Smart Box, mostly due to the version of windows i use, Which is XP home edition. I have finally decided after much research I am going to retire the Smart Box and purchase the Vikant Ultimate Box. I have to reload my update on the smart box at least three times weekly, and I encourage anyone considering purchasing one to give it a lot of thought, as the Ultimate Box seems to be the better bargain. I purchased the Smart Box from Allbrands, and I know the problems I have with it are only due to the Windows compatability issues. Ok, I said my piece, but I will sell my SmartBox to any of you that might want it at a large discount.

I'm a new member in this forum and this is my first post. The term "magic box problem" is new for me, i've heard it first here. If you've any idea about this matter please let me know how your experience is with it and how you've solved it.

My understanding is that the Amazing box and the Magic box are the same, just labeled differently for different sellers. Check this though. I have the Ultimate box (basic) and it works very well. It was about $160 for the box and the card, so a little bit cheaper maybe. It will write as many designs as there is space on the card, no limit of 6 as some of the other boxes had. It is supposed to write cards for all the machines, but one of the machines requires a different blank card (for the same price). The price varies a lot, look around if you end up returning your current box and are looking for a better one. ther service at Vikant is very friendly and helpful as well. When I bought mine, there was some confusion about the names of the new and older models as they were just changing over. All got straightened out quickly. The Wilcom Trusizer is free and gives you all the function of the more expensive PLUS version of the Ultimate box. More than maybe you want to know, but best of luck getting your problems solved.
