I have a juki MO-816 and having trouble serging elastic to waistbands. Elastic is 1/4 and the material is nylon/polyester. Stitches seem way too close. Any ideas how to smooth this out? Thanks

On my old basic sergers I used to stretch the elastic as I serged with no problems. Today however many sergers have special feet for elastic. Are you using an elastic foot? These elasticators have a screw that can be set to give a certain amount of tension or stretch to the elastic as needed.
Sometimes the bunching of stitches is caused by too much stretching because when the elastic relaxes, so do the stitches. If you increase your stitch length it might help this problem or you could use a flatlock. If you are not using an elasticator on your serger, possibly getting one could help. If you are using one then maybe adjusting it to stretch less could help. Best of luck to you.
