I made a little bed with a handle for the baby I made for my daughter. She was worried that the baby needed a place to sleep. I made it in a 5x7 size and am showing that version here. I also digitized, but have not test stitched, a slightly simpler little 4x4 version for those with smaller hoops who are making the little doll. Wouldn't want little dolls running around with no beds out there

The directions will be the same for both designs, the 4x4 design you will simply omit the steps for the little pillow applique as there wasn't room for it on the smaller design area. Otherwise, it will look the same as the one shown here, just a little shorter and smaller

If anyone happens to stitch up the 4x4 version and wants to post a pic of it in the thread for others to see, that would be nice

I'm including versions 6 and 3 in pes format for both the 5x7 and the 4x4 size files

And here is a stitched out version of the 5x7 bed using quilters cotton for bed fabric, flannel for blankie and batting added during stitching.

Stitching Instructions:
- Stitch first outline for fabric placement
- lay bed fabric right side up over placement area
- stitch to tack fabric in place
- stitch pillow outline for placement (5x7 only)
- lay white pillow fabric over outline (5x7 only)
- stitch to tack down (5x7 only)
- trim around pillow applique close to stitching. do not unhoop or cut stitching (5x7 only)
- satin stitch around pillow applique (5x7 only)
- stitch placement line for blankie
- place folded piece of fabric with fold at top, with the folded edge about 1/8" above placement line and the outer edges large enough to cover the bottom and sides of bed.
- stitch outline to secure blanket into place
- stitch placement mark for ribbon handle on left side
- place a 6-10" (I just wrapped around my wrist and eyeballed it) piece of ribbon right side down with end extending 1/8" above placement line
- stitch next step to secure ribbon in place
- repeat above three steps for right hand side of ribbon handle being careful not to twist ribbon.
- secure ribbon in middle of design with tape or a pin to make sure it doesn't get caught in final outline stitching.
- place one piece of bed fabric right side down, large enough to cover entire design outline
- AT THIS POINT...you have a choice, you can add batting now or you can stuff the mattress afterwards. If you want to stuff the mattress with batting or felt at this step, place batting or felt on top of the fabric you just placed before stitching the final outline. If not, skip this step. For those who want to know, I used two layers of medium loft batting at this step.
- Stitch final outline to finish design
- turn through small hole in outline's right side
- trim threads remove stabilizer.
- if you didn't use batting in above steps, add polyfill now
- You can hand stitch the opening closed or top stitch all the way around on your machine. I hand stitched mine.
