Does anyone make apple butter? Or have a recipe for it? Would appreciate having one and haven't seen one in any of my cookbooks.

I remember as a child, my mother made plum butter and peach butter, but haven't a clue how she came up with a recipe....well, she didn't really cook by recipes. It was soooo good! thx, lou elam

this is the recipe i use--but there are a MILLION online--just google it.

CROCK POT APPLE BUTTER

Approx. 3 lb. apples
3 c. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cloves
Dash of salt
3/4 c. water

Fill crock pot 3/4 full of peeled, cored sliced apples. Add remaining ingredients and stir until evenly mixed. Cover and cook on low overnight. If butter has too much liquid, remove lid and cook on high until of desired consistency.

Here's one for all the folks who need to stay away from sugar!

Peel and chop or slice enough apples to fill crockpot: Mine is a large 6-8 qt crockpot
Mix Granny Smiths with Gala's and a couple of Yellow Delicious and heap them until they fill the pot to the lid.

Add 3-4 cups of splenda (yep it cooks up beautiful)

I use 3-4 tablespoons of cinnamon

Cook all night on low. You can remove the lid in the morning and cook down a little more if you want.
If your apples aren't as smooth as you want you can use a 'tater masher but I use one of the hand held blenders. It makes for beautiful apple butter.

Made the sugar free version of Apple Butter and it turned out beautifully. I made it for my mom who is a diabetic and has always LOVED apple butter and she loved this recipe. Now I need to know how to can it so I can make more than 2 jars at a time. That's all that it made and I'd like to put some up for her. Anyone know how?

i wanna say it's a hot water bath (jars fully covered in boiling water) for 15 minutes--but that's without lookin' at my book. but I know you can look it up online. I'd say, google "canning apple butter" and see what you find!

Just wondering if the Splenda would have any effect on canning. I've never canned anything with Splenda yet.

I canned apple butter last year with Splenda and they canned and sealed beautifully! I did notice that they molded quickly after opening. I want to say they only lasted about 3 weeks, although, in our house, only one jar lasted that long anyway! My son eats it on pancakes, pnut butter and jelly, biscuits, etc.

Good luck!

I've canned stuff with splenda no problem. Just like canning regular sugar items.
