Hi....do any of you Quattro owners have problems with the basting stitch around your design? For over two years I have had no problems but now about half the time the bobbin thread doesn't catch.....sometimes it goes part way around and then catches, sometimes not at all. When it doesn't catch I have to remove my hoop and physically pull the bobbin thread up and start again. My friend and I bought our machines at the same time and she is also having this problem. We have had them in for servicing twice and are still having problems.....the techs say they are fine. We both have cleaned and put in new needles. The gals in the store have blamed our bobbins, our spool caps, and even the solvy we use as a topper, but these are things we have always used with no problems. So, we are wondering if any of you are having similar problems and maybe this is something that happens when your machine is a certain age. I have decided to pull that bobbin thread up every time I embroider and save myself a lot of frustration. Inspite of this annoyance I still love my machine. I am anxious to hear from anyone with a Quattro. Thanks for listening.

If I remember correctly, there have been a lot of posting recently regarding issues with Brother machines (not just your model) and thread problems same as yours.

I don't have a Brother machine, so can't really help - except if you do a search on here you should find many many postings addressing this issue.

I have had my Quattro for over 2 years and have not had any problems with it. Sometimes it is the type of thread that you use. Good luck. I wouldn't give up my Brother Quattro for anything. Mary

Try holding onto the end of the thread when starting, it does help! :D

Thanks for your responses......I will do a search and see what I can find out. This machine hasn't found a thread it doesn't like so I know that is not the problem. I tried holding that thread and still about half the tests I did didn't catch. I am using the same bobbins, threads, needles, and stabilizers I have always used so I just don't understand why this is happening after over two years of working right....and my friend is having the same problem. In spite of this problem I still love my Quattro.

My Designer SE is finicky that way, too.........I just have to run the bobbin thread through the guides as if I were putting in a new bobbin and then it catches on the first basting stitch........otherwise it doesn't. Just a quirk that I've gotten used to I guess.......it works fine for the embroidery and for sewing. I do use NEBS prewounds and the thread is fine and slick.........figured that may be part of the issue for me.

I've just gotten my Quattro so I can't say I've had that problem, or any, for that matter. But my Brother ULT I often presented that problem when I used fine thread in the needle. I baste a lot on heirloom projects with embroidery and often don't like size 80 needle holes in Swiss batiste. So I use a 60 needle and 80 wt. thread. I always have trouble basting with that thread, so I've taken to pulling it up manually---a small price to pay for the kind of basting I want. But I've never had a problem with regular weight thread. I guess the Brother techs never expected me to baste with fine needles and fine thread.

Kay, that is what I will have to do....or make sure I pull up that little bit of thread that comes through the hole. I just think that what I paid for this machine that it should work all the time!!!

Janice, you will love your new machine.....it does so many wonderful things.....the snowman is especially great. And the camera....I could go on and on. Have you found that the center of the hoop (when you use the markings on the hoop and do a cross-hatch) are not the same as when you use the plastic template? I just discovered this recently and find it intersting.
