OK, there's been a lot of interest in the Family Crests i've been posting. First, some basic information. I've been asked how I find these crests.

I am no longer taking requests for family crests in the Free Designs Section.

After receiving the family name, it helps to know the family's country of origin. Even within the country, there may be different family crests based on the county, region or province where the family was located when they were granted their crest. Some countries based the crest on the "tribe" or clan to which the family belonged. Having that information is also very helpful.

I prefer to find descriptions or renderings of true historic crests through family genealogy sites on the web. I base my designs on these descriptions or renderings. There are a number of sites that sell family crests. But be aware, these sites generally offer embellished crests in order to copyright their images. I won't digitize any copyrighted images, and if you intend to sell anything with a digitized copyrighted image, you might find yourself in trouble. Even giving away or selling the design file may land you in hot water.

Not all families have a crest. Nowadays crests are no longer bestowed by royalty, but you can choose to create your own if none exists currently.

The colors, symbols and embellishments all have a meaning. There are a number of websites that explain the meanings, but one of my favorites is http://www.fleurdelis.com/meanings.htm

With all that said, here's a link to the search that shows all 204 free crests I've posted in the Free Designs section:

search.php?keywords=crest*&terms=all&author=Daddy+T&fid%5B%5D=16&sc=1&sf=firstpost&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

Not all the crests I've digitized are posted here. Some of them were under contract, so I don't feel right sharing those.

I am no longer taking requests for family crests in the Free Designs Section.

Grammy,

I'll add Sandberg to my list.

My mother recently had a total hip replacement, completing the set, as she says. She's now had both knees and both hips replaced. Her best advice is obey your physical therapist and get moving... She said her biggest regret was delaying the surgeries as long as she did. She's only 74, but was diagnosed with arthritis at 39. She had an evil task master (her words) for physical thereapy but is awfully glad she did. She's moving almost as well now as she was many years ago.

Very nice work and such generosity. If and when you have time I would love to have the Sutton crest English version done for me hausband and his family. He (my hubby) was just told he has prostrate cancer and two of his brothers also have or have had it and it will be nice to put on a shirt or towel or something. Not looking for sympathy and only when you have the time. Thank you sew much for being you.

Barb,

I have all of the elements for the (English) Sutton family crest digitized. All of the elements I've used in other family crests. I'll post something soon.

THIS IS MARVELOUS!
INFORMATION PLEASE? OUR FAMILY NAME IS BEHEL (GERMAN IMMMIGRANTS CIRCA 1710) PRONOUNCED LIKE PEEL. I HAVE SEARCHED FOR A CREST FOR THAT NAME WITHOUT SUCCESS. I UNDERSTAND FROM FAMILY RECORDS THE THE NAME WAS BECHTEL AND WAS CHANGED SOME WHERE ALONG THE LINE TO MAKE IT EASIER TO PRONOUNCE (HA HA). WHEN WE GO INTO A RESTUARANT AND GIVE OUR NAME WE ALWAYS SPELL IT AND IT IS VERY FUNNY TO WATCH THEM TRY TO WRITE IT DOWN. THEY HAVE A VERY HARD TIME PUTTING THE "H" IN. THEN WHEN CALLED WE MAY BE "BE-HELL" "BETHEL" "BELL" "BILL" ETC, ETC.
WE HAVE LEARNED TO LAUGH AND LISTEN CAREFULLY TO BE CALLED. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER YOU CARE TO HAVE OTHER NAMES ADDED TO YOUR LONG LIST? BUT APPRECIATE INFORMATION AND SUGGESTIONS FOR FINDING A CREST IF THERE IS ONE THAT WOULD FIT THE NAME.
I APPRECIATE THE GENEROSITY YOU HAVE SHOWN AND THE GREAT TALENT YOU DEMONSTRATE IN YOUR WORK.
THANKS WYNASEW

I would love to have the Conlin family crest. They are from Ireland. I am sure someone else will request the McCarthy crest so I will keep my eye out for that one.
Whether you find time time to do mine or not, I am sure I speak for many of the SewForum members, thank you for your time and for sharing your talent with us.
Thank you again,
demacon

Your talents are certainly shown in all these crests; what a generous guy!
The Knight family supposedly originated in England (thought it was Wales but found out differently). If you would add Knight to your list? Thanks again.

Glad that your mom got a complete set. I have not yet, but it is on the list. From everyone I have spoken to they all say the same thing--I wish I hadn't waited so long. May she continue to enjoy good health. You are so talented and generous with your time.

DADDY T

I have a request for the crest of WHITE (England ) and CARTER ( England ).
the reason I'm being greedy is my maiden name was White and my Married name is Carter and I would like to make a wall hanging with both linked together to pass down to our Son & Daughter. As there are no more Whites from our part of the family to carry on the Family Name.

If this is not possible I understand as you have been and still are swamped by requests

thank you
Grummy

DADDY T
Sorry but this message was not on the site when I sent my request --- although it shows 8.08am 4/5 USA time -- as I live in Australia it was sent in our time which was around midnight here. So please forgive me.
