SewForum Members Sign-On Rules

Please take some time to look over these rules. If they are not followed, the resulting action may be in the form of an account suspension or termination.

1) Respect the Staff: Making insults to our moderators and administrators and abusing them in any other way will not be tolerated. If a moderator/administrator tells you to stop doing something, STOP, if you don't you'll likely be banned. NEVER attack the moderator directly, we're almost always just doing our job when we edit/delete/ban/etc.

Please respect the decisions of our moderators/administrators or PM an Administrator if you disagree with a copy of what a moderator sent you. It's OK to question, but once a decision is made we will not discuss it over and over again! There will always be someone who will be unsatisfied with a decision on a board with many active members. We can't satisfy them all and don't want to discuss every single detail every time someone doesn't agree. It will be a disciplinary offense to criticize a member of the admin team. It will also be an offense to question a management decision, e.g., threads concerning a banning. If a member has threatened a member or admin team member we will delete them and also ban them straight away no questions asked.

2) Rules of SewForum: The rules are posted throughout the forum and it is the member’s responsibility to read the rules in each section before making posts, uploading pictures, etc. Members are responsible for reading the rules when they join and following the rules as they participate in the Forum. If a rule is not followed the member will be PM'd and the rule clarified. If the clarification is ignored the member's account will be removed. Anyone posting to the forum will post at their own risk as once they leave be it for any reason their posts remain as a permanent part of the forum until which time it deemed necessary to systematically remove old archieves to make room for new postings.

3) Do NOT Flame or Troll: Flaming, flamebaiting, and trolling are NOT allowed ANYWHERE on the site, this includes posts, signatures, PMs and repeat comments. Flaming is the act of directly insulting another member, flame-baiting is making a comment with the intention of getting a flame as a response, and trolling is the act of making posts with no purpose other than to annoy people.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the webmaster, administrator and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

4) Do NOT Spam with Links or Advertisements: Instead, please post or send a PM to an administrator asking about being an affiliate.

5) Inappropriate Material: No posting of any material that is inappropriate is allowed here. This includes, but isn't limited to, swearing or any pornographic images. While the administrators and moderators of SF try to keep all material deemed inappropriate off of the board, there may be a post that they miss. If this is the case, please send a PM to an administrator or a moderator (preferably one online at the time) with a link to the post. If a signature is deemed inappropriate, an administrator or moderator has the right to edit it without prior notice.

6) Postings: a) Please don't post huge pictures. The reason being is that there could be some members with dial-up and the load time for the page would probably be slower than for members with broadband or DSL. Resizing programs are listed as sticky note at the top of the Show Off area of the Sewforum. Photo dimensions should be approx postcard viewing size and kept under 100kb where possible, and around 50kb even better. Large photos will be resized when noticed to save forum space, and will have notation resized added to original file name.
b) Please don't multi-post topics in different forums. For example, don't post a picture in Show Off Your Projects and then in the Miscellaneous Picture forum. You could have your topic deleted and you could be issued a warning. c) Please do not post any personal information such as your address or telephone number on the forums. Instead, please do any exchanging of personal information of any kind via the PM or e-mail system. d) You can only post your own original designs for free made by your own software.

7) Private Messages: The contents of PMs are subject to the posting rules. A PM should normally remain private between recipient and sender. An exception is when a PM is misrepresented or breached by either party or breaks the posting rules, e.g. contains illegal, inappropriate, or malicious abuse. In which case the recipient should, in the first instance, send the PM to a moderator or admin for action to be taken.

Licensed Cartoon Character Rules: It is the policy of AllBrands not to allow links to or downloads of characters that resemble any U.S. cartoon characters. Copyright infringements have to do with gaining a profit from using others’ designs without permission and sharing or selling of a digitization that you did for yourself. When discovered the links will be removed and the poster PMd. We will leave a note in the post that the link/information was deleted. I caution all new embroiderers to check with the company before using any company's logo, character, etc to see if it is allowed.

9) Copyright Violations: IF YOU FEEL THERE IS A COPYRIGHT VIOLATION PLEASE CONTACT THE MODERATORS OR THE ADMINISTRATORS AND DO NOT POST TO THE BOARD. THIS NOT ONLY CAUSES EMBARRASSMENT TO THE POSTER, BUT ALSO CAUSES HEATED ARGUMENTS WHICH WE WILL NOT ALLOW ON SEWFORUM. Postings containing pictures of copyrighted figures are allowed. Digitizing of known copyrighted figures are not allowed.

Due to the controversy surrounding licensed character links it is AllBrands’ and SewForum's rule not to allow links to any designs of Disney, Raggedy Ann, Harry Potter or any other designs that may represent licensed characters. We will no longer debate the copyright issue. It is our rule. We are not lawyers here but we are allowed to have rules.

Information from a Disney representative of the legal department state: Disney allows Brother to sell their designs however the designs can only be used for personal use. The use of their designs for resale by themselves or on items for sale is strictly forbidden. Disney is aware of links that have been posted on our site to sites that sell designs not made by Brother. The representative said that the European and Russian sites that sell them are not legal and the Disney representatives in those areas are pursuing investigation of the sites. I specifically asked about using the Mickey Mouse outline, especially as a font. She says that this outline of the mouse ears and head belongs to Disney and is not an outline that anyone can take and digitize and use. She is aware of U.S. sites posted at times on this Forum that sell the designs. She says Disney will be pursuing this matter further. Any use of this font posted on this Forum will be deleted. So will links to this font. Also links to the Russian sites, etc will be deleted. Links to other websites and Forums that sanction the use of these illegal designs will be deleted. Thank you all in advance for your cooperation. Cajun

Coloring Books have an Intended Use Copyright. Meaning you can color them and that is all. Therefore changing the format is a copyright violation.

10) All Members are Equals: Do NOT single a member out because they have low rep, post count, or status on the site, all members should be treated equally, whether they be an admin or a troll. This also includes minor rule violators, you are NOT allowed to attack minor rule violators for breaking the rules, simply tell them the rule they broke and leave it at that. Although major offenders on the other hand, such as advertisement spammers likely won't get you in trouble for attacking them, any rule violations are best handled by using the report system, not by flaming. Please don't insult other members, the end result for this could result in a suspension or termination of your account.

11) Termination: SF reserves the right to suspend or terminate an account at any time for any reason.

12) Bannings: If you have been banned, you can try to appeal it. All you need to do is send an e-mail to one of the administrators explaining why you've been banned and why you think you should be un-banned.

To All Members:

I need to clarify the advertising rules for the Forum.
If you own a small business related to sewing and embroidery and are not in direct competition with AllBrands you may advertise yourself in the Merchant Mall.
That is the only place that advertising is allowed.
Prior to the Merchant Mall there was no advertising of any sort allowed on this Forum.
No references were allowed by members who owned businesses to their own business.
Recently we see that some members have made references to their own businesses in several ways.

This is what is allowed:
1. Advertise your business as often as you wish in your one thread in the Mall
2. Usernames are allowed that are names of businesses (for example even though I don't have a website I own CajunQuilter.com and TheCajunQuilter.com amongst others. As long as your username does not include "www.com" or ".com" or "www" you may use it.
3. You may refer members to any website for free or pay for designs, patterns etc.

This is not allowed:
1. Business names in Avatars that include any part of your http://www.com ( Clarified further June )
2. References to yourself or your business advertising in your posts other than in the Mall area.
3. Business names on pictures including those with your business name even if no http://www.com in it.
4. www addresses are reserved for posting in the Mall area only.
5. Blog links without items for sale may not be posted by the owner in any part of the forum. (Post blog links with items for sale in Merchant Mall)

I hope this clarifies the rules. Cajun
